Some ideas are born into the world, much like children. Raw, undeveloped, screaming for attention as you fumble about, trying to decide what to do with it.
Other ideas simply...appear on your doorstep one day, complete and whole. Once its foot is in the door of your mind, it grabs your attention and spills out its entire existence from start to end. It can only hope for your approval as you struggle to take it in and put it down on paper.
Other ideas are mere sparks. A spark given life by the hammer of some song, some story, some picture, striking the anvil of your mind. A mere fragment of a thought. If ignored, it will wallow some time in the dark before dying out, lost in the pile of other thoughts demanding your attention. But if gathered up, nurtured, set to tinder, who knows what it could erupt into? Something useful? Something beautiful? Something practical? Maybe something just plain misbegotten that never should've been touched at all.
But who really knows, until those fragments are gathered, and given a chance?
So...what is Fragments?
Fragments is a creative project born of equal parts lack of focus, desperation and boredom.
For years I've tried to piece together one long, cohesive story, whose creativity could rival the days I used to role-play. Each project in turn was steamrolled; either life or friend took prescient, or school demanded attention, or I simply lost interest somewhere along the way.
Eventually my creative methods would become...scattered. Each story became a hodgepodge mix of wonderful ideas and thoughts that really had no business being together.
Eventually I asked myself, why all the big plans? Why all the sprawling, lush worlds that will never be explored?
Why not...just nurture the Fragments.
So, then, Fragments will be my attempt at nurturing those thoughts, those creative hiccups, the mere beginnings of what could be a dozen different worlds. Perhaps each new Fragment will connect with the last somehow. Maybe they'll have nothing to do with eachother whatsoever. Maybe I'll go back to add to previous fragments, bring it back to surface. Anything can be a Fragment. A bit of story, a small comic, a photo that inspired some kind of monologue. In the long run, it doesn't really matter.
All that matters is that the Fragments have their chance to see the light. Because I'm tired of promising myself that I'm going to do something big soon, only to do nothing at all.

My idea of a free society is one where it's safe to be unpopular.

Just because there are things I don't remember, that doesn't mean my actions meaningless. The world doesn't just disappear when you close your eyes, does it?
